Forums are an essential place to actually get helpful information about any piece of tech or software. The Google Nest Community in particular is especially helpful for any queries you may have about your Google Home equipment, as it’s stocked with years upon years of user and Google employee questions, issues, and information.

At least, it was. As of June 30, we can wave goodbye to all that, as Google is completely erasing the old Google Nest Community for a brand-new forum.

Google is throwing away years of useful info

And its new forums have a fresh coat of paint

As of mid-May, the new Google Home and Nest Community forums have been available to use, but Google has been very selective about which queries and posts it’s migrating, and it’s not user posts. At the time of publishing, you can still access both forums, but the old Google Nest Community forums will be disabled and deleted at the end of the month (June 2026). This comes amid various changes made by Google that have users debating switching to a different smart home ecosystem altogether.

Google Nest Community forums have been growing for years, stockpiling helpful information and making it the go-to place for any assistance you may need with your Google Home setup. After all this time, it’s unlikely you could have an issue or question that hasn’t already been asked and answered by fellow Google users, community product experts, or Google employees. Meaning, it’s a huge bank of crowdsourced information and Google’s own posts that can help you with any and every query you may have at any given time.

So why is Google throwing it in the trash? Well, as I said above, Google’s decided to go in a new direction with how its forums work (and more importantly, how they look). That’s right, a huge reason that Google is changing its community pages could be as simple as a new coat of paint.

The biggest difference between the new and the old forums

(Not including the years of posts that are being erased)

What is the need for new pages, you may ask? Well, Google’s newly launched Google Home and Nest Community forums boast a new layout that’s set to make it more cohesive for users to navigate, ensuring the information you need is easier to find. Google is creating new forums for each product line, including 10 specific product categories. But this change may go beyond its aesthetics. Google’s new Community pages are set to place greater emphasis on official Google blogs.

But they’re not just binning seven years worth of posts for a design change alone. The new Google Home and Nest Community forums are said to have a focus on reducing spam and limiting off-topic conversations, according to Google’s official blog post, streamlining its structure to make it clearer and simpler to find the best answer to the question you’re posing.

Google described this migration as being “geared towards making things smoother, faster, and more intuitive”, adding that they’re “gearing up for the future with a cleaner look and a lightning-fast interface.” It’s something that shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone at this point, given Google’s huge focus on AI, there will also be a dedicated page for Gemini for Home.

What are we going to do without the forums?

In the process of creating the new community page, Google has migrated over several of its posts from the old forums. It’s worth noting that posts can be moved over, but Google has decided not to do that with any other posts beyond its own.

The biggest problem with using the new pages is that it’s going to take a while before the new Google Home and Nest Community forums gather the same wealth of information that the original has accumulated for the last seven years. For now, it’s just going to be Google’s own posts and not much else.

What can you do before the switch is made official, and the old forums are deleted forever? You can manually archive and migrate your own posts to the new pages—though this could obviously take some time if you’re a highly active user of the old community forums. This is also an especially helpful step to take before the transformation takes hold if you’ve posted about regular issues you come across with your Google Nest ecosystem.

Otherwise, Google recommends users transition their legacy Nest account to a standard Google Account, so their devices are merged and centralized in one app. Google Home devices may not work in the Google Home app if this switch isn’t completed properly.

You’ll also want to start looking for other sources of information from fellow Google users in the time between the legacy Nest forum getting deleted and the new one gaining traction and interaction. The best places for these are forum sites like Reddit, or sites like YouTube where you can find how-to guides and video explanations for any issues others may have come across. Even X isn’t an awful place to go to ask questions or seek assistance (though it isn’t the first place I’d recommend asking for help).

RIP Google Nest Community forum

As Google continues to upset users with its smart home products malfunctioning, Google’s abrasive push towards integrating AI into anything and everything, and questionable security and privacy with Workspace software, is this another nail in the coffin?

Previous Google diehards are already making the switch to alternative OS and smart home ecosystems, and now it looks like you’re on your own if you need help with your Google Nest products. One day the new Google Nest and Home Community forums may grow to the same capacity as the legacy, but it will certainly take some time. For now, archive any of your old posts and get ready to spend a lot more time on Reddit if you need help or information about Google products.
